After a dual meet, the Red emerged victorious at Newman Arena on Sunday, defeating Southern Connecticut State University by a score of 193.450-189.075. After a clean first-place sweep across events, several complete podium sweeps and momentous scoring, the Red went on to honor its senior class, thanking the women who dedicated years to the program.
Vault
This event kicked off the complete podium sweep across the meet, with senior Cami Whitaker emerged victorious, scoring a 9.750 and securing first place for the Red. Close behind was junior Addy Rothstein who finished with a 9.725, placing second. Tied for third place were freshman Grace McLean and senior Michaela DeFrancisco with scores of 9.700. Additionally, freshman Noelle Wojcik scored a 9.550 while evened out the Red takeover of the podium, with an impressive overall vault score of 48.575, the highest event scoring of the meet.
Balance Beam
In first place, McLean dominated the competition with a score of 9.775. Continuing the Red’s streak of success, senior Mikayla Burton and junior Natalia Tehrani tied for second with 9.625 scores. Adding onto the score, sophomore Anne MacKenzie scored a 9.525. Overall, the Red achieved a score of 47.900.
Uneven Bars
This event proved to be incredibly competitive, leaving the top three finishers with a differentiation of .050 or less. In this close competition, sophomore Sarah Goetter landed in first place with a score of 9.725. In second place, Rothstein scored a 9.700, and in third, senior Morgen Shambo scored a 9.650, while remaining a consistently high-scoring gymnast on bars. Tied for fourth with identical 9.600 scores were sophomore Dahlia Jhaveri and Tehrani. Additionally, junior Josie Moylan scored 9.025, totalling the score for uneven bars to 48.275
Floor exercise
This event showed incredible skill and prowess in each athlete, especially in the first place who had the highest score throughout the meet.. With an impressive score of 9.825, Moylan won first place in this event. In fourth, Whitaker and Goetter had identical scores of 9.750. Placing sixth, freshman Ella Fox scored a 9.700, while Rothstein and McLean also participated in the event , earning a combined score of 48.700 for the Red.
Next Event
The Red will now look forward to a quad meet in College Park, Maryland. The event hosted by the University of Maryland, will also see Ball State and Temple participate in the competition. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
