LETTER FROM THE EDITOR | Correcting the Pathways to Peace Print Headline

Reading time: about 1 minutes

The Coalition for Mutual Liberation posted on Wednesday about a discrepancy between the online and print headlines of the article about the disruptions to the Pathways to Peace panel.

We recognize that we are covering sensitive matters that require both timeliness and scrutiny. The print headline "17 Responsible For Disruption of Israel-Palestine Panel" was written in reference to a University statement released on Tuesday that stated that “Cornell University Police identified 17 people responsible” for this disruption. The Sun’s editors apologize that the print headline incorrectly stated that protesters were responsible, rather than that the protesters were only identified by CUPD at the point of publication. We recognize that the number does not necessarily reflect the true amount of demonstrators responsible for the disruption, considering that cases had not yet been adjudicated by the time of publication.

For full transparency, The Sun typically utilizes different headlines for the print and website versions of articles, especially due to formatting constraints. Our print issue is submitted the day before it is distributed on campus. We apologize for the mistake in the print headline and strive to maintain credibility in all future coverage.
