Field Hockey Shuts Out Yale in New Field Debut

Reading time: about 1 minutes

Field hockey took yet another win at home this season, improving its record to 6-0, 2-0 Ivy League, after Friday’s victory (2-0) against the Yale Bulldogs. This match marked the Red’s first varsity competition on the new Marsha Dodson Field

The Red immediately took the lead, scoring in the 17th minute of the second quarter and once again in the 3rd quarter. In an incredible defensive effort, the Red held the Bulldogs to zero goals, with senior goalkeeper Jane McNally recording four saves.

Overall, the Red outshot the Bulldogs 14-11 and led in penalty corners, 10-8, bringing its season scoring total to an impressive 16-3 over opponents. The victory against Yale marked the team’s first against a top 20 opponent since defeating Syracuse 2-1 back in 2023.

The field hockey team has dominated this season so far and is set to face some fierce opponents in the coming weeks. The players are constantly looking to refine their game.

“Details. I think that the detail of what we do needs to be a little bit better,” said head coach Andy Smith. “We’ve had a pretty good season so far, but the level of concentration and the level of attention to the little details is going to make the biggest difference for us going down the stretch.”

Looking ahead, the Red will travel to Rhode Island to face off against Brown University on Friday, Oct. 3 and  Bryant University on Sunday, Oct. 5. All the action will be streamed live on ESPN+ and America East TV.
