Meet the Hockey Beat

Reading time: about 7 minutes

The Cornell Daily Sun Hockey Beat is a team devoted to covering Cornell men's and women's hockey for The Cornell Daily Sun. For the 2025-2026 season, the beat will be composed of five writers, two photographers and one videographer.

Jane McNally – Co-Editor

Jane McNally is a senior editor on the 143rd editorial board and a co-editor of The Sun’s hockey beat. She was also the 142nd sports editor of The Sun and is a senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences majoring in communication. This is Jane’s fourth season on the beat, having covered the men’s hockey team for the last three seasons, including three trips to the NCAA regional final.

Aside from The Sun, Jane has interned with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL and covers the ECAC and college hockey nationally for College Hockey News. She is also a member of the Cornell Varsity field hockey team.

Jane is from the suburbs of New York City and developed a love for the sport of hockey while attending New York Rangers games at Madison Square Garden. Her first-ever byline about hockey — which appeared in a Rangers blog — was an article in favor of the NHL adopting the international 3-2-1 point system. This season, she is most looking forward to returning to MSG for the biennial Red Hot Hockey contest against Boston University.

Eli Fastiff – Co-Editor

Eli Fastiff is a senior editor on the 143rd editorial board and a co-editor of The Sun’s hockey beat. He is a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in environment and sustainability and government. This will be Eli’s third season on the beat — his coverage of the Cornell’s women’s hockey team has included two NCAA tournament runs, a Patty Kazmaier winner and a trip to the Frozen Four in Minneapolis.

Aside from The Sun, Eli also serves as a broadcaster for Cornell men’s soccer, baseball and softball on ESPN+. He spent this summer broadcasting for the Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league. He is also a contributor to The Ice Garden, a women’s hockey news site.

Eli is from San Francisco and is a proud Bay Area sports fan. His favorite non-Cornell hockey memory is a certain San Jose Sharks five-minute power play in the first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This season, Eli is most excited about the chance to go to Lake Placid for the first time to cover the women’s ECAC championship weekend.

Alexis Rogers – Reporter

Alexis Rogers is the 143rd sports editor of The Sun and a reporter on the hockey beat. She is a sophomore in the College of Arts & Sciences majoring in English and environment & sustainability. Previously, she covered men’s lacrosse’s 2025 championship victory for The Sun, and this is her first year on the hockey beat.

When not designing the back page of The Sun’s print edition, Alexis spends her time with her pre-law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, and works as an events assistant in the Literatures in English department. She has interned at the Evanston RoundTable, a local nonprofit newsroom.

Alexis is from Evanston, IL, where she grew up following the Chicago Blackhawks’ five years of playoff glory — bring back Kane and Toews! She is excited to explore the behind-the-scenes of the Red’s first year without the legendary Mike Schafer, and in the meantime, can be found in the press box reporting on Cornell football.

Tyler Goldberg – Reporter

Tyler Goldberg is a reporter on The Sun’s hockey beat. He is a sophomore in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, majoring in animal science. This is Tyler’s first season on the beat.

Tyler is from Upstate New York, outside of Albany. He is a lifelong Pittsburgh Penguins fan who developed a love for the sport of hockey from playing it as a kid and going to Albany River Rats games with his family. His childhood favorite players were Marc-Andre Fleury, Sidney Crosby, and Jaromír Jágr.

This season, Tyler is looking forward to the biennial Red Hot Hockey contest against Boston University at Madison Square Garden. He is also excited to continue his sibling rivalry through both the Brown and Harvard matchups.

Eli Kwait – Reporter

Eli Kwait is a reporter on The Sun’s hockey beat. He is a freshman in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences majoring in biological sciences. Eli is excited to join The Sun after writing food articles and editing the sports section for his high school newspaper.

Outside of classes and writing for The Sun, Eli enjoys watching/playing ice hockey and baseball, trying new restaurants and has a vinyl record collection. He got into hockey at a young age, watching the Philadelphia Flyers with his dad and idolizing players like Claude Giroux, Chris Pronger, Jaromír Jágr, Danny Brière, and Simon Gagné. The Philadelphia native is still waiting for a Flyers Stanley Cup, but is glad to take a break from watching the Flyers and cover the Red.

Grady Millones – Photographer

A lifelong hockey player from Darien, Connecticut, Grady attended St. Luke’s School, where he played four years of Varsity hockey and developed a deep connection to the game. Now at Cornell, he combines his on-ice experience with his academic and creative pursuits, aiming to capture the energy and tradition of Cornell hockey through media.

This is Marian’s first season on the beat.

Outside of The Sun, Marian is a creative technologist, with internship experience at Microsoft and Blue Origin. She hopes to bring that same spirit of innovation to The Sun, telling sports stories in fresh and dynamic ways.

Originally from New York City, Marian is excited to bring video, data and vibrant storytelling to the hockey beat.
