Women’s Rowing Topples Dartmouth in Clash for the Parents Cup

Women’s Rowing Topples Dartmouth in Clash for the Parents Cup

Reading time: about 2 minutes

Created in 2000 in honor of parents’ support, The Parents Cup has been historically awarded to the winner of the 1V8 race in the Dartmouth-Cornell regatta. Last Saturday, women's rowing headed up to Vermont to compete against the Big Green for possession of the coveted cup in the Lake Morey Regatta.

The winner of the cup was decided during the 1V8 race between the Red and the Big Green in the morning session of the regatta. The Red went up against the Northeastern University Huskies for a few additional races in the afternoon. Ultimately, the Big Green retained the Parents Cup this year, winning the 1V8 race with a time of 6:59.43. The Red followed up behind with a time of 7:16.72.

In the morning session, the Red faced the Big Green for a total of six races, one of which the Huskies also competed in. In the 2V4, which featured all three teams, the Big Green took the win with a time of 8:12.38. The Red came in second, clocking an 8:17.79 time, and the Huskies came in third, clocking an 8:32.09 time.

While the Red may have lost the cup, they were victorious in the 3V4 race for the second week in a row. The Red won the 3V4 with a time of 8:27.7, and the Big Green followed behind them with a time of 8:37.1.

The Red competed in four more races against the Huskies: the 1V8, 2V8, 3V8 and 1V4. The Red came up short in all four races as the Huskies swept the afternoon session of the regatta.

This upcoming weekend, women’s rowing will be back on the road. They will travel to Providence, Rhode Island, where they will go head-to-head with the Bears at Brown University for their last regatta before the Women's Sprints Championship and the Ivy League  Championship in May.
