The men's basketball team travels to Syracuse tonight in hopes of a win against this challenging opponent.

A new-look Cornell hoops squad will face some tough challenges in its pursuit of a fourth consecutive Ivy League title and NCAA Tournament appearance with games against tournament teams Syracuse and Minnesota scheduled for 2010-11.

The Cornell team in the RooftopComedy.com National College Comedy Competition presented by TBS prevailed in an online vote and moved on to the next “Ultimate 8 Selection Round” on Tuesday night. 

The softball team will take on Syracuse today at 3:30 p.m. in a doubleheader at home.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –– Another tough Big East opponent, another hard-fought loss for the men’s basketball team, which dropped to an even 2-2 on the season after falling to No. 9 Syracuse (5-0), 88-73, on Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome.

There are always key moments in a game that determine the outcome. For some games, it is decided in the opening seconds while in others the outcome remains uncertain until the final ticks of regulation. For Cornell, the difference in a game appears to boil down to the opening minutes of the second half.

With only three days to recover from a 3-0 loss to cross-town rival Syracuse, the Red opens its Ivy League schedule tomorrow in New York City, taking on Columbia. Cornell will also finish off its non-conference schedule, taking on Hartford tomorrow as well.

When the Red (2-8) made the trip to Syracuse (10-4) Wednesday night, nobody was hoping for a repeat of last year’s 3-0 win by the Orange. But that’s exactly what they got, falling in straight sets, 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.

“We started off really strong, but we just weren’t able to close,” said head coach Sarah Bernson. “Our discipline broke down. We haven’t gotten to that point yet of pushing through and finishing a set. When [our opponent] challenges us at those key moments –– that’s what we need to work on.”
