The women’s hockey team will open the ECAC playoffs at home for the first time ever this weekend, when it hosts the eighth-seeded Colgate Raiders. The Red hold the No. 1 overall seed after its dramatic surge to overtake Clarkson atop the ECAC standings on the last weekend of the season. The Red (15-8-6, 14-2-6 ECAC) is currently 1-0-1 versus the Raiders (12-18-4, 8-10-4 ECAC) on the season thus far.

Women's Ice Hockey Falls to No. 3 Clarkson Golden Knights, 2-1

A night after its dramatic tie versus St. Lawrence, the women’s hockey team continued its road trip against ECAC leader Clarkson in Potsdam, N.Y., on Saturday night. The Red entered the contest as the only ECAC team to have beaten the No. 3 Golden Knights so far this season. However, the Red was unable to repeat its November performance, ultimately falling 2-1.

W. Hockey Skates Past Two, Earns Another Shutout

The No. 6 women’s hockey team managed an undefeated weekend as it took on two ECAC opponents, Princeton and Quinnipiac. On Friday night in New Jersey the Princeton Tigers (6-3-1, 5-2-1 ECAC Hockey) were left scoreless as the Red (6-3-1, 6-1-1) skated past them for a final score of 1-0. Saturday afternoon featured a 3-3 tie with the Quinnipiac Bobcats (6-4-4, 4-1-3) at their rink in the TD Bank Sports Center.

W. Icers Blank No. 2 Clarkson, Fall to St. Lawrence

The women’s hockey team split its two league games over the weekend at Lynah Rink –– shutting out the second-ranked team in the nation in the Clarkson Golden Knights before falling to the Saints of St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon, 3-2. Sophomore goaltender Amanda Mazzotta stopped all 33 shots Clarkson (12-2-1, 6-1 ECAC) threw at her Friday night and the Red killed off six power plays to beat ECAC leader Clarkson 2-0. The Red (5-3, 5-1 ECAC) then coughed up a 2-0 lead against St. Lawrence (6-4-4, 3-3-1 ECAC), allowing the Saints three straight goals and handing the Red its first league loss of the season.

W. Ice Hockey Makes History with ECAC Sweep

The women’s hockey team made history over the weekend after it completed its first ever sweep of Dartmouth and Harvard, shutting out No.6 Dartmouth 3-0 on Friday night before coming away with a dramatic 4-3 win versus No. 9 Harvard Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink.

W. Ice Hockey Swept by No.1 Mercyhurst

The women’s ice hockey team entered this past weekend with gaudy aspirations for the 2009-10 season, hoping to pick up its first victory in program history against the USCHO No. 1 ranked team Mercyhurst. But in its first two regular season games, the Red, under head coach Doug Derraugh, fell to the Lakers, 4-1, on both Friday and Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink, and remain winless (0-11-1) against Mercyhurst.
