FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — The Virginia attorney general's office says two families have sued the state on the second anniversary of the mass killings at Virginia Tech.
Relatives of slain students Julie Pryde and Erin Peterson filed the lawsuits in Fairfax County Circuit Court on Thursday, which was the deadline.
They were the only families who did not agree to an $11 million settlement with the state last June. Student Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people before fatally shooting himself. University officials have been criticized for how they handled the incident.
A spokesman for Attorney General Bill Mims confirms the lawsuits were filed but says he can't provide details.
Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker says he's aware of the lawsuits. Messages were left for the families.
