In some games, a normally empty sports cliché really rings true. After Friday’s 2-0 victory for the men’s hockey team, the old saying “a win’s a win” certainly came to mind. Despite being outshot, 32-16, Cornell prevailed over Quinnipiac on the back of a remarkable shutout performance by senior goalie Ben Scrivens.

Fish Throw a Red Tradition

It is a well-known and time-honored tradition that the Lynah Faithful toss fish onto the ice before the annual Cornell-Harvard game at Lynah Rink. However, what has always remained a mystery is how the ritual began.

The long wait is over for the Lynah Faithful, as the men’s hockey team will open its 2006-07 season when it faces Robert Morris in Lynah Rink tonight. The team will then face off against RIT on Saturday night.

Body:

After a month and a half of nothing but captain’s practices, the men’s hockey team took to the ice at Lynah Rink in front of a crowd for the first time this season on Friday night. The annual Red and White scrimmage, an intra-squad game, gives the Red a chance to showcase its talents and allows the coaching staff an opportunity to see where the team stands.

Each year on the night that the men’s hockey team hosts Harvard in Lynah Rink, denizens of the Lynah Faithful smuggle contraband into the rink in order to break the rules and continue the tradition of covering the ice with fish before the game.
