Castaways, the local bar and music venue known for its intimate concerts, charity benefit events and community-friendly environment, plans to close its doors by May 1 after 40 years on the West End waterfront.

After nearly four years of business on the corner of Green Street and Cayuga Street, the women’s clothing store Morgan’s is closing. The self-described “New York-style boutique” is shutting its doors because its owner moved to another state and was unable to find a buyer.

It’s getting tougher to find a good meal in Collegetown these days.

When students returned to Cornell this August, they found that yet another two longstanding Collegetown eateries — Smoothie Hut and The Greek House — had shut their doors for good. These latest vacancies join the veritable laundry list of Collegetown closings in recent years.
