M. Soccer Hosts Local Rival Bearcats

Tonight will be an eventful night for the men’s soccer team; not only will the players be celebrating International Student Day — an event planned in honor of the team’s six represented countries — but they will also be returning to their home turf to face off against local rival Binghamton.

There is no doubt that Binghamton (3-3-0) will prove to be quite the challenge. With a young roster and a solid defensive line, the Bearcats will definitely be putting the Red (3-2-1) to the test.

“We’ve got a challenging opponent coming up,” said head coach Jaro Zawislan. “They’ve always been in or on the verge of making the NCAA playoffs, so our team has to be ready from the first minute on.”

M. Soccer Falls to Syracuse, Wins Against Hartwick

Alex Kuczynski-Brown  —  Sep 9, 2009

Men’s soccer head coach Jaro Zawislan’s return to his old stomping ground of Syracuse may not have unfolded exactly as planned, but there was a silver lining to the long weekend, as the Red (1-1) picked up its first win of the season against Hartwick (1-1-1), and the first of Zawislan’s tenure as coach. A late-game penalty kick gave Syracuse (1-2) the advantage in Saturday night’s matchup, but Cornell would rebound in commanding fashion on Monday night –– shutting out Hartwick by a score of 1-0. In doing so, the Red equaled its win total from last season and snapped an 11-game losing streak dating back to Sept. 21, 2008.

The men’s soccer team started off a successful Homecoming weekend for Cornell by defeating Yale, 2-1, on Friday night for its first Ivy League win of 2006.

Only a few minutes into the game, freshman forward Matt Bouraee scored and the Red took the lead for the next 15 minutes of play. Yale countered with a goal and the game remained tied until junior captain Kyle Lynch scored the game-winning goal on a header from sophomore Miyad Movassaghi in the 70th minute of play.

Body:

Not much had changed by the end of the men’s soccer team’s home game against Penn. Cornell had been struggling to find the back of the net, while Penn hadn’t been having any trouble. Cornell was in the midst of a two-week winless streak, while Penn had won five of its last six games.

Clark scores in double overtime, earns Bulls’ victory

Body:

Sometimes, all it takes is one lucky bounce, one moment of hesitation, one mental lapse that creates the breakthrough to win a game. Unfortunately for the men’s soccer team, it was on the wrong end of such a game-breaking moment.
