The fight over a $180 million lawsuit filed against Cornell by the father of a student who committed suicide has intensified in the last month, with both sides toughening their rhetoric and accusing each other of distortions and ethical improprieties.

The Ithaca Fire Department reported additional oil contamination in Fall Creek to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Friday. Firefighters placed a new absorbent boom in the creek to contain the oil.

Excavation workers found the source of an oil sheen Tuesday that was spotted in Fall Creek on April 11, according to The Ithaca Journal.

The Department of Environmental Conservation is currently investigating oil found in Fall Creek, which likely originated at Cornell’s Arts and Sciences Alumni Building on 726 University Avenue.

After the Veterinary College's animal carcass digester released fluid into the Ithaca sewage system for the second time this year, administrators say the programming error which caused the incident has been fixed.

 Several student groups — including the Eco Adventurers, Friends of the Gorge, Residential Student Congress and residents in the Ecology House — have worked together this past semester to organize gorge-clean up projects that they hope will beautify and rectify the image of the gorges. 

A student fell 30 feet into Fall Creek Gorge while apparently trying to rock climb near the Thurston Avenue bridge on Saturday afternoon. The student suffered “severe abrasions” and was airlifted to a hospital in Pennsylvania, according to John Carberry, a Cornell public information officer.
