CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –– Senior goaltender Ben Scrivens managed his 16th career shutout on Friday night at Harvard, helping the Red to a 3-0 victory over the Crimson on Friday night. This shutout –– his fifth of the season –– leaves Scrivens only two shy of the University record for most career shutouts, currently held by David McKee. It was also the first shutout that the Red has claimed over the Crimson away from Ithaca since 1967, and this had the numerous Cornell fans at Harvard’s rink –– affectionately called Lynah East –– bursting with excitement.

After Tuesday’s 6-2 victory against Colgate, Cornell moves back into a first-place tie in the conference standings. After the Red narrowly edged out a 2-0 score on Friday night for its third straight win, the team’s momentum came to a screeching halt during Saturday’s matchup with Princeton. The Tigers built a 4-1 lead in the second period, forced senior goalie Ben Scrivens out of the game and survived a late comeback threat to skate to a 5-3 victory over the Red.

Victory on Senior Night Vaults Red to Tourney

While celebrating Senior Night, the last regular season game of the year, with a 5-2 win over Union, the men’s hockey team also ensured that it will return to Lynah Rink once more this season for a quarterfinal matchup in the ECAC Hockey tournament. With the victory, Cornell is guaranteed a first-round bye in the tournament and no lower than the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.

On a night to recognize the eight graduating seniors on the Cornell roster, it was rising junior center Riley Nash who put on an offensive show. He racked up two goals and two assists and seemed to be at the center of most of the Red’s chances on offense.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Josh Perlin  —  May 2, 2008

The e-mail was short: “Josh, me and you need to have a little chat. No problems, just want to talk.”

So, one night in Nov. 2005, I took a phone call. The voice on the other end was Chris Mascaro ’06, and he was offering me the opportunity of a lifetime.

What if you had the opportunity to go to every Cornell athletics event for free, home and away; receive an all-access pass and the best seats in the house to every event; meet and talk with all the players and coaches; befriend the staff and administration in and out of Athletics, at Cornell and other schools; chat with famous media personalities, coaches and athletes from around the country, in college, professional sports and beyond?

Would you take it?
