For the first time since 2005, two members of the men’s hockey team were named to the first team in ECAC Hockey. The league office announced yesterday afternoon that senior goaltender Ben Scrivens and defenseman Brendon Nash, also a senior, made the top list — both made the jump from second team accolades last season.
There are three others who received league honors: senior captain Colin Greening, junior forward Riley Nash and freshman defenseman Nick D’Agostino.
In the case of Cornell’s first team honorees, the statistics don’t lie. Scrivens posted a save percentage (.933) and winning percentage (.705) that were easily the highest in the conference, while Nash finished league play tied for second in scoring by defensemen with 14 assists.
Named to the All-ECAC second team for the third consecutive year, Greening was the Red’s No. 2 scorer as of the close of league play. With three game-winners, the forward was tied for the league’s highest tally.
With a strong last month despite coming back from an injury, Riley Nash’s third team mention makes it the second time that the Nash brothers have both received league honors.
D’Agostino made a splash in his first year at Lynah Rink, making the all-newcomer team after finishing in the top-2 of scoring among all rookies with 13 points in the regular season.
The last time a Cornell pair appeared on the first team was in 2005, when David McKee ’07 and Matt Moulson ’06 made the list.
