It was a dismal day for the Red (9-5, 3-3), playing against the fourth-ranked team in the nation on the road on Saturday. The Princeton Tigers (13-2, 4-0) overwhelmed the Red, 10-1, to clinch the Ivy League title in an assertive manner. Six Tigers scored on sophomore goalkeeper Alex Botte, who was still adjusting to playing the full game in net while senior goalkeeper Mel Jue was turning the tables on opponent teams’ goalkeepers on the women’s hockey over the weekend.
The Tigers’ scoring onslaught was continuous as the Tigers scored four in the first half and six in the second. The Red was outshot, 23-4, only the second time this season that the team did not manage to get more shots on goal than the opponent. The Red also only had three penalty corners to the Tigers’ six.
Giant steps: Princeton’s field hockey team overwhelmed the Red on Saturday to claim first place in the Ivy League.
The Red’s lone goal came from junior attack Catie De Stio. De Stio’s 10th score of the season moved her into a tie for ninth place in Cornell history for goals in a single season.
The Red has lost five of its past seven games after starting the season off with a string of seven straight wins, and will be looking to rebound against their final opponent of the season, Dartmouth (9-7, 4-2), on the road next Saturday. The Red will look to finish its Ivy League season in the positive column against the talented Green.
