The undefeated Red (7-0, 2-0 Ivy) will hope to extend its historic opening of the season against its third Ivy League opponent, Yale (5-3, 1-1 Ivy) during the Bulldogs’ “Team Up to Fight Cancer” weekend. The team will be riding into New Haven on a wave of adrenaline tomorrow after a thrilling 2-1 double overtime win against Columbia last weekend.

Yale is also coming off a 2-1 victory, holding off a surging Hofstra team. The Bulldogs have been hot lately, winning four of their last five games. Senior forward Ashley McCauley has an impressive eight goals on the season in eight games. Teammate senior midfielder Katie Cantore has 10 assists on the season, four short of the single-season record and has the fourth-most assists per game in the country. Goalkeepers junior Katie Bolling and senior Charlotte Goins have been sharing the net with similar save percentage, 61.5 percent and 66.7 percent, respectively. Bolling has taken over the net solo in the last two games. The Bulldogs lead the country in penalty corners per game (1.75). Yale’s backfield is also fearsome, featuring three of the team’s top point-holders.Fancy stickwork: Senior Kelley Kantarian duels with a Columbia Lion in the Red’s 2-1 win last Saturday.Fancy stickwork: Senior Kelley Kantarian duels with a Columbia Lion in the Red’s 2-1 win last Saturday.

The Red has won 14 of its last 15 games, the first of the 14 trailing back to a 2-1 win at home against the Bulldogs. Top attacker senior Catie De Stio has an equal goal-to-game ratio as McCauley, scoring seven in seven; however, De Stio also has been exceptional at dishing off this season, increasing her point total to 18. Although Yale features two talented goalkeepers, the Red’s senior goalkeeper Mel Jue has an extraordinary .880 save percentage and a .71 GAA on the season.

The Red has been cutting it close recently, with each of its last four wins being by a single goal. The team has been working hard to preserve its stellar record.

Said senior co-captain Natalie Appleton, “We have been really focusing on little details like hitting and receiving and moving the ball well and hopefully by working on the basics we’ll be able to put it all together for the game on Saturday.”
