Making Noise Around Town

April 3, 2009

We’ve just rubbed our bodies down with aloe to sooth our burns after soaking in the HEROIC sun all day on the slope. It feels so, so good to be burned to a crisp after months in VILLAINOUS hibernation. Now, in light of the Sun, we couldn’t be happier to say that we’re done for the semester with rocking fake tans and unnecessary sunglasses. The Sun’s shining and we’re crossing our fingers that it’s here to stay. Nothing makes us happier here at HEROES & VILLAINS than sunshine and sangria and we’re proud to say that we’re ready for more.

It’s always sweet to see warm weather when HEROIC acceptance letters are sent out to the newest generation of Cornellians. The often-VILLAINOUS application process usually proves to be unpredictable, stressful and altogether annoying. So go have a drink, you HEROIC new crop of freshmen, the wait is finally over! Actually, that would totally be illegal! Man, that’s VILLAINOUS. Well, I guess just do it anyway — see if we care!

Despite the nice weather, a VILLAINOUS rain cloud metaphorically swooped over a hoard of students who were seriously irked about the closing of the HEROIC Physical Sciences Library in Clark Hall. Although these HEROIC students compiled an epic list of signatures, it’s clear the University has got to do what its got to do. But can we please try to save some HEROIC books while we’re doing all that doing? That’d be nice.

Speaking of saving, many HEROIC students gathered this week to discuss the sweet ways in which they are saving the world with service-learning. As one of the most important and altogether HEROIC ways to learn/work/help the world, service-learning deserves to be shown some love. We’re totally just waiting for the University to substantially reward these HEROIC efforts.

In the realm of other HEROIC efforts, students made the most HEROIC noise this week at the Common Council meeting Wednesday night to discuss the plan for the development of C-Town. H&V made the trek from the batcave over to City Hall to see all the ruckus, and were shocked in the most HEROIC of ways to see so many loud, passionate and dedicated students in attendance. Way to go, dudes! We knew you had it in you!

Green Café opened its doors last week and we’re still in a HEROIC food coma. We sort of shook it off while we watched the HEROIC men’s hockey team defeat Northeastern. Sad times when they didn’t make the Frozen Four, but no worries — it’s like we said, we’re still sorta in a food coma.

Anyway, we’re just biding our time at this point until the HEROIC GZA, er, Girl Talk concert this weekend. Good going, Cornell Concert Commission, you little HEROES you! We’ll see you there, Cornell. As per usual, we’re ready to party!
