Police arrested four suspects on Friday in connection with the reported armed robbery of a Burger King on Elmira Road on Jan. 24, according to a Ithaca Police Department press release.

Police said that two Burger King employees conspired with two other suspects to steal from the restaurant. The employees staged a fake robbery to cover up the theft, according to a press release from the IPD.

On Jan. 24, just before 11:15 p.m., a man in a dark hoodie entered the establishment and pointed a black handgun at the store manager, who had just closed the store for the night, a Jan. 25 police report stated.

The thin suspect — identified as a thin, 5’7” male — then fled in an unknown direction.

Police made the arrests Friday after examining surveillance tapes and conducting interviews with neighboring businesses.

Suspects Cheyenne Elliott, 19, of Groton, Brianne Freedline, 20, of Freeville and Ithaca residents Allister Forest, 24, and Johnnita Payne, 32, will be charged with fourth degree grand larceny and fifth degree conspiracy, according to the press release. The four suspects are awaiting their court date.
