On Wednesday, the Multicultural Greek Letter Council, the governing body for the Multicultural fraternities and sororities on campus, elected six of their members to serve on the 2010 executive board.

This year’s board will consist of President Evelyn Ambriz ’11, Executive Vice-President Angel Vasquez ’11, Vice President of Judicial Affairs Kenneth Fujita ’12, Vice President of Finance Amelia Bezerra ’12, Vice President of Programming Vicente Gonzalez ‘11 and Vice President of University and Community Relations Angela Lau ’12.

The board will help organize and govern the multicultural Greek organizations, develop programs, enforce rules and mediate conflicts for the community. These individuals also serve as the primary representatives of the multicultural Greek organizations on campus.

One of the primary goals of the new board will be to establish a greater sense of unity between the 16 fraternities and sororities of the council. It also hopes to generate a greater deal of cooperation between the MGLC and the other two Greek councils on campus, the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council.

“This semester we had our first council wide community service event,” said Lau, a member of the Kappa Phi Lambda sorority. “Over the next year, I hope to continue promoting unity within MGLC and promoting council-wide service events.”

“One of my biggest goals on executive board is to build a better community amongst all the councils and between all the chapters in the council,” Fujita, a member of Lambda Phi Epsilon, said. “I feel we should work for more unity in the MGLC and the Greek community as a whole.”

An additional area of emphasis will be raising the profile of the multicultural Greek organizations on campus, which are often overlooked in the Greek community at large.

“My main goal is bringing MGLC brand out more on campus, increase the visibility and emphasize MGLC as Greek leaders,” said Gonzalez, who represents Lambda Upsilon Lambda. “We recognize that we aren’t mainstream but our goals and value of the organization should be highlighted.”

This board’s term begins next semester and will continue to serve through the end of the fall 2010 semester.
