On Monday, President Barack Obama nominated Justice Barbara Milano Keenan ’71 to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Keenan, 59, has served since 1991 as a Justice on the Virginia Supreme Court. If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first woman from Virginia to serve on the Fourth Circuit.
Keenan has been “a trailblazer for women in the law throughout her career,” according to The Washington Post.
“Justice Keenan has a long and distinguished record of service on the bench,” Obama said in a White House press statement. “Her commitment to fairness and judicial integrity has been unwavering throughout her career, and I am honored to nominate her.”
