In one of the most contested races in the Student Assembly elections for freshman-at-large seats, 31 candidates are running for three available positions. In the other races, four candidates are vying for the transfer representative seat and two are running for the LGBTQ position; in addition, one candidate each is running uncontested for the AAP representative seat and the University Assembly undergraduate seat. Several more freshmen are running for office this fall that ran last fall — a total of nine more students are running for the freshman-at-large seat.
The candidates will gather tonight at the Straight to discuss their platforms and answer questions posed by members of Cornell’s administration. The Candidate Forum, which is set to start at 7 p.m., will include all 39 students running for the seven available Student Assembly positions. Candidates will respond to questions from Kent Hubbell, dean of students, and Susan Murphy, vice president of student and academic services. The voting in the election will be held online. It will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, and continue until 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Students will receive an email explaining how to access the voting website.
