Violence in Palestine prompts citizen action

The past century was filled pain and persecution, most notably the Holocaust. Civilized nations vowed never to let it happen again. Yet as I look at the image of a 12-year old Palestinian girl with three-inch bullet holes in her face, I wonder how much we have really learned. How can we ignore a Palestinian mother crying over the bloody corpse of her 18-month old infant?

These are chilling images of only two killings. Dozens of Palestinian civilians have been openly butchered and thousands have been injured in the past six days. Are these children not worth weeping over just because they were born Palestinian?

Has civilized society lost all sensitivity for the loss of life? Have we just become amoral, apathetic, and complacent "citizens."

People of conscience, particularly Cornell students, should speak out against these massacres -- it is our duty as human beings. Please join us on Friday at 2 p.m. on Ho Plaza to march for the human rights of the citizens of the world.
