Back with a Bang

Welcome back readers! Red Letter Daze is back from its Winter Break hibernation, rested and ready to inform and entertain.

Over the next five weeks or so, a group of young editors will be competing to join the next editorial board of Daze, and The Sun in general. They will be adding their own voices, styles and ideas to the weekend edition, so look out for some changes. Many of the same columnists are returning to advise you all, but there will be several new columns this semester, including the premiere of the pop culture column Dirty Pop in this issue.

Speaking of scandal ...

We’ve been back barely a week, and drama has already hit the Hill — this is just in time for Cornell’s Hazing Awareness Week, which started this past Monday and runs until tomorrow, the fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha has been kicked off campus for sending three freshmen to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. The incident at Pike shines the spotlight on an issue that has fascinated the Cornell community for years: hazing on campus.

In the first issue of the new decade, Daze explores the history of hazing at Cornell, as well as an exploration of students’ perceptions. Let us know what you think.

And on a lighter note, this issue also includes a feature on the (in)famous Segway Kid and a quiz to tell which Cornell library is for you. Just a little something to brighten up your day as classes and homework start.

Of course, we here at Daze know that the work will start to pile up soon, but please make time to send questions, comments and suggestions to daze-editor@cornellsun.com, and follow Red Letter Daze on Facebook and / or Twitter.

Welcome to a new semester,

Allie Perez
