Whether or not you personally have a Twitter account (I don’t), you probably know what it’s all about. No matter if your 140-maximum-word-count-updates are a way for your business to advertise sales and new products, a venue for you to publicize the fact that you just got an A on a prelim, or the only way your larger than life celebrity status can touch down to your fans, you’re connected.
Unless, of course, you’re Miley Cyrus.
About a week ago, Miley Cyrus alias Hannah Montana deleted her Twitter. What happened next?
She rapped about it.
In a ground breaking PR move, Miley Cyrus released a YouTube video chanting, “Yea, the rumors are true. I deleted my Twitter”. Begging for a private life and whining about tabloid overexposure, Cyrus made a bold move by removing herself from the site.
Not.

Sing along with Cyrus’s rap video Even if you love celebrity gossip, live your life according to Perez, or are a huge fan of People.com’s “People Pets” Website (whatup, Jenni), there’s no excuse for this sort of self-promotion. While it’s true that Cyrus’ fans are predominantly part of a younger age demographic, the singer knows what she’s doing. She knows people shouldn’t care about this absolutely ludicrous video or why she even bothered to make it with her friends, but they still do. Who’s idea could it have been? Did her publicist (or father, Billy Rae Cyrus) come up with the master plan? Or his he/she smacking his/her head against a wall and crumpling up yesterday’s issue of Variety? Only 16 years old, though, Cyrus acts her age. You sure won’t catch Hilary Duff pulling a stunt like this one. No, you’ll catch her on Gossip Girl playing a mildly more annoying and poorly dressed version of herself.
