New School Year, New Daze Style

I’d like to welcome you all to a new school year and, more importantly I think, a new year of The Sun and its weekend edition supplement, Red Letter Daze. Now, you may have noticed that something is different about this issue, Daze’s first of the year. And you’re right — over the break, while the Cornell community scattered to the four corners of the globe in search of meaningful summer activities, gainful employment and/or more sleep, Red Letter Daze underwent a few changes in order to remain a vibrant, yet financially viable institution within The Sun.

We’ve gone from a 16-page separate insert, using 11.5 by 12.5-inch heavier paper, to a 12-page subsection of Thursday’s paper — using the same lighter, tabloid size that the daily paper uses. The redesign, masterminded by designer extraordinaire Munier Salem ’10, is a version of last semester’s concept, but with several innovations.

In addition to the physical product that you are holding now, we have spruced up the content of Daze, as well. Though we’re sad to say good-bye to columnists who graduated last year, we’re happy to introduce our readers to an awesome group of new writers. New columns this semester include “The Complaint Department” by Lauren Kramer, “Sex on Thursdays” with Hazel Gun (which premieres next week) and “Big Red Ambition,” Jenni Warne’s ongoing mission to accomplish every single one of the things of the list of 161 Things Every Cornellian Should Do.

The bottom line is that Daze may look a little different, but the Daze staff, Assistant Daze Editor Cara Sprunk and myself are still committed to bringing you the same high level of content that you have come to expect from us.

Additionally, Daze has joined the 21st century. Become a fan of Red Letter Daze on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter — twitter.com/redletterdaze.

Then again, there’s always room for improvement, so be sure to send any comments, questions or suggestions our way to daze-editor@cornellsun.com.

Here’s to a great year,

Allie Perez
