On one glorious day — Slope Day — Cornell students rightfully let loose and blow off steam from a semester of uninterrupted responsibility. It would be plain stupid to ignore the fact that safety is a particular concern on this day, but it seems to me that there are just as many dangers to the booze-addled collegian on any other day of the year, which is why Cornell is set to start its safe ride program soon.
Taxis (and buses), however, remain popular. These are intriguing cultures within the Ithaca transportation scene — who doesn’t have a weird or funny story from a memorable cab or bus ride? And this is why Daze investigates this culture for the final issue of the 2008-09 school year. In between the Slope Day planning efforts, take a look at this article for a deeper look at this public, yet private institution.
Now, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to this magazine this past semester.
So when you need a shot of Daze over the summer, be sure to check The Sun’s website for Daze blogs — such as a Notes from Abroad column — which will appear over vacation.
And remember to send any questions, comments, concerns and suggestions for the magazine to daze-editor@cornellsun.com. We aren’t mind-readers, so let us know what you want to read about. Have a great summer, and we at Red Letter Daze will see you in the fall!
Summer lovin,
Allie Perez
