I have been to various beaches throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean — sunny locales just like those prime Spring Break destinations that many Cornell students visited last week. On the other hand, I have been to Disney World approximately six times throughout my childhood, and I hope that I will be able to go at least another six times.
Disney is all about being a kid again, and sometimes finger paint sounds much more appealing to me than that 15-page paper that I’ve put off until the night before it’s due — a thought which is echoing in my head especially strong right now as I’m still readjusting to Cornell P.S.P. (Post Spring Break).
I find myself envying Assistant Daze Editor Cara Sprunk, who vacationed at that magical land in Florida. In this week’s issue, she compares the experience of Disney to her stay in the Bahamas at the same time two years ago.
But Spring Break is just the test run for a time of even greater freedom — after graduation, another time when students are students no more. Even someone all settled in on Wall Street within a week of commencement feels those pangs of aimlessness: What do I do with myself now that I have no real guidelines by which to live my life? I’m just a junior, and the pressure is already mounting to have a “serious” plan for after college.
This week, Daze Senior Writer Michelle Pascucci writes about three seniors who have a plan to combat this post-graduation chaos. Their current goal: to raise enough money to join the Bike and Build Team and cross the country on their two-wheelers — generally doing good along the way.
So the moral of the story is that I’d like all our readers not to worry so much about starting that serious life. Take a minute to be a kid again.
And of course, getting back into the swing of things after break, remember to send us your questions, comments, concerns and suggestions for the magazine at redletterdaze@cornellsun.com.
Stay sunny (even if the Ithaca weather doesn’t cooperate),
