Only two days until Valentine’s Day! It would be a good assumption to say most of you already have your Valentine’s plans set in stone (maybe you even took the advice of Cheap Dates in last week’s Red Letter Daze), but what if you meet the one tonight?
Does it ever really happen — locking eyes across Johnny O’s and actually getting legit butterflies in your stomach (not just the nausea from one drink too many)? I’ve never experienced it, but I can help with what to do next.
No one wants to be a “clinger,” no one. So you can’t really text your one true love two days after you met and say, “Dinner tonight at John Thomas?” But there is a way to casually initiate the Valentine’s Day date — mixing “spontaneity” and romance.
For Saturday, do something better than inviting this new person over to watch a movie. Even if you truly intend to sit through all 123 minutes of The Notebook no one will believe that upon the invite.
The first suggestion — invite your potential one-and-only to help you make dinner (emphasis on help). Make sure your proposal is casual!
Make it a little more romantic by including some aphrodisiac foods. Some easy nourishment to put hearts in the eyes of your partner includes asparagus, avocado, chocolate and wine.
Another idea is to head over to the mall and visit the movie theatre. Impress your date with your flexibility and let them choose the movie. Sacrificing your full enjoyment by watching either Friday the 13th or Confessions of a Shopaholic would show off how easy you are to hang out with to your new special friend.
If Regal Cinema isn’t easily accessible to you, both Zack and Miri Make a Porno and In Search of a Midnight Kiss are playing at Cornell Cinema on Saturday.
Show off your knowledge of all things Ithaca, and take your date to Castaways on Saturday night for the Sweet and Tart Valentine’s Day Party. With live music by the Sutras and a photo booth for some fun, your date is sure to be impressed with your last minute Valentine’s Day skills.
Saturday is about so much more than a dozen red roses and heart shaped boxes of chocolate. It’s about showing someone how much you care, or in this case, how much you could care one day. So be brave, and invite that person who you wish was your Valentine to partake in some last minute fun with you. I’d bet it pays off.
