For Those Who Like to Get Drunk Early

November 9, 2007

Walking to class Wednesday morning, I overheard a guy tell his girlfriend that he had “just drank enough last night to stay warm.” Amused by his statement, but sympathetic as I pulled my scarf tighter, I thought about drinks that warm you immediately and in the long run. As a caffeine addict, I thought I’d start with coffee drinks and move to other warm drinks (hot chocolate, tea, etc.) next week. Let’s start with the simple and move to the more complicated…

All drinks are whipped cream optional.

Irish Coffee

1 1/2 oz Irish Whiskey

Hot Coffee

Pour whiskey and coffee into mug with sugar on the rim. Stir.

Boston Caribbean Coffee

1 oz Dark Rum

1 oz Brown Creme de Cacao

Hot Coffee

Dip rim of a mug in lime juice, then sugar. Pour brown creme de cacao, dark rum and coffee into mug. Stir.

Doublemint

1 1/2 oz Peppermint Schnapps

1 splash Green Creme de Menthe

Hot Coffee

Pour schnapps, creme de menthe and coffee into mug. Stir.

Caparico

1/2 oz Brandy

1 tbsp Sugar

1/2 oz Creme de Cafe

1 oz Amaretto

Hot Coffee

Put sugar in bottom of a mug that has had its rim dipped in cinnamon sugar. Add brandy, liqueurs and coffee.

Black Gold

1/4 oz Hazelnut Liqueur

1 splash Cinnamon Schnapps

1/4 oz Irish Cream

1/4 oz Triple Sec

1/4 oz Amaretto

4 oz Hot Coffee

Combine all ingredients in a mug. Stir.

Chocolate Coffee Kiss

3/4 oz Coffee Liqueur

3/4 oz Irish Cream

1 splash Brown Creme de Cocoa

1 1/2 oz Chocolate Syrup

1 splash Grand Marnier

Hot Coffee

Pour everything into a mug. Stir.

As a last note, I recommend making coffee in a French press.
