WVBR will launch a new online radio stream geared toward Cornell students when classes resume in the spring, according to a Powerpoint presentation obtained by The Sun.

Student leaders at WVBR, an Ithaca-based radio station operated by Cornell students, are expressing frustration after the University recently began questioning whether it should allow The Cornell Radio Guild — WVBR’s parent organization — to continue to register as a student organization.

As my time left in Ithaca dwindles away, there’s one aspect about life in Tompkins County that I only recently realized just how much I’m going to miss: the radio stations. Now, I’m not sure how wonderful or terrible the radio stations were in your hometown, but where I’m from in the New York, tri-state area, FM programming is a waste of frequency space.

Librarians of the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections housed in Kroch Library are hard at work cataloguing more than 50 years of WVBR records that were donated by the student-run radio station Monday. The records — compiled by students and alumni — are documentation of the station’s history, chronicling things from a news broadcast of the Kent State shooting to WVBR’s switch from classical music to rock radio.
