Here Comes The Sun

Mar 2, 2009

It’s a special day for us down here at The Sun as we bring you the inaugural issue under the direction of the paper’s 127th editorial board. As our predecessors pass the torch, the task is a daunting one. But we have high hopes for the rebirth of the nation’s oldest continuously independent college daily — and we’re more than ready to feed the flame.

The Sun is a constant work in progress. With each spring comes a new board of leaders and innovators who sacrifice their social lives, sleep and sanity for the good of this newspaper. And as we make ourselves at home at 139 W. State St., we will all work to both preserve what makes The Sun the institution that it is, as well as seek out how to keep The Sun shining in what are dark and dismal times.

Welcome to the Hill

It’s the final countdown. In less than four weeks, you’ll find yourself standing in the stifling heat in a parking lot on North Campus. Dad will be off parking the car, Mom will be running about trying to find the next available luggage cart, and you, dear freshman, will be one of many, looking lost and confused, surrounded by a barricade of luggage, boxes and things.

But soon enough, Mom and Dad will shed a tear or two and be off, leaving you to face the most exciting four years of your life.

Cornell is an awesome place. Sure, there’s the daily grind of classes, papers and exams. But if there is one thing you take away from this issue of The Sun, may it be this: The academics are only one slice of the pie that makes Cornell so great.
