Re: “The Wrong to Remain Silent by Ariela Rutkin-Becker,” Letters, Jan. 28

The underlying contention of Ariela Rutkin Becker’s column “The Wrong to Remain Silent” is fundamentally flawed. Rutkin-Becker argues that the American Jewish community is unconditionally supportive of Israeli government policies without any debate as to the justice and effectiveness of Israeli policies. This could not be further from the truth.

No One’s Laughing

We never intended for the recent news of a student’s death to make it into the opinion pages of this newspaper. While the information was disseminated quite responsibly by the news section — including details about the spread of H1N1 and how the virus may have lead to the student’s untimely death — we felt that any commentary should have been left to those who knew him.
