Baseball Maintains Streak with 7-5 Win

Mitchell Drucker  —  Apr 15, 2009

The baseball team extended its winning streak to three games after a 7-5 victory over LeMoyne College in Syracuse yesterday. The Red scored one run each in the first, third and fifth innings before exploding for three runs in the seventh. Hitters Brian Billigen, Mickey Brodsky and Brandon Lee each notched a pair of hits for the Cornell offense, and Mike Carroll pitched two innings of relief work to pick up the win.

In the top of the first inning, a Frank Hager single that scored senior Nathan Ford from second base enabled to Red to get out to a 1-0 lead. However, that lead did not last long as the Dolphins tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Cornell freshman catcher Brandon Lee explained the importance of getting on the scoreboard in the first inning.

W. Lacrosse to Host Le Moyne in First-Ever Meeting

Hoping to build upon its 3-0 undefeated record, the women’s lacrosse team will host Le Moyne College today at Schoellkopf Field in what will be the first meeting of these two central New York teams.

Like the Red (3-0, 0-0 Ivy), Le Moyne (2-3, Independent) is similarly trying to utilize the momentum of its winning streak, as the team is coming off of a 20-7 victory against Detroit Mercy and 11-9 win over Sacred Heart.

“We never played Le Moyne before, so it should be interesting,” sophomore attacker Libby Johnson said. “I’ve played with a lot of girls on the team in summer leagues and stuff, and there are definitely a lot of good players on the team. We know that they’re going to be looking to bring a good game just from being from the same area as us.”
