President David Skorton’s signature has sealed a year-long debate over how to resolve allegations of sexual assault against students in compliance with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational institutions.
On Friday, the Office of the Judicial Administrator heard its 11th case of sexual assault this year — setting the record for the most cases of sexual assault ever referred to the J.A. in one year. Still, University officials said they believe improvements in education on assaults, rather than an increase in crime, is responsible for the uptick in referrals.

Parents of students who are convicted by the Judicial Administrator of committing two drug or alcohol related violations will now receive a letter from the Dean of Students Office about their child’s actions thanks to a new protocol that took effect in July.
