Students keeping kosher without an unlimited meal plan may find it more convenient to dine at 104West! this semester on Friday nights due to a new Shabbat Meal Plan introduced by the kosher dining hall on Monday.

Note: Yesterday I received a letter from my hometown temple, notifying me that as part of the “Sisterhood” College Connection program that I’m signed up for, a donation was made in my name to a village helping to relocate Israeli youth “away from the stress of the situation.” Receiving notification that my name was so perfunctorily assigned — that my beliefs were assumed based on my affiliation with a congregation — to a unilateral cause which I never would have personally supported, re-ignited a fire of anger that persisted throughout all of winter break. Interspersed in this column are actual quotes that I received in my present yesterday from Mr. Isaac Herzog, Israel’s minister of welfare and social services (believe me, I could not have dreamed this title up.)

An anonymous band of students and faculty began to read a list of names yesterday morning at 11 a.m. Although the names were read to the pace of a ticking clock, 24 hours is simply not enough time to name all 6 million on the list.

“Lova Rozenberg, Country of residence: Czechoslovakia. Place of Death: Auschwitz. Year of Death: 1944. Age: 40.”

This was just one of the many names that a young woman read aloud on Ho Plaza yesterday as she went through part of a long list of Holocaust victims. As a way to commemorate and remember those who died, Cornell Hillel organized a Holocaust vigil, in which the names of thousands of Jews killed in the Holocaust are being read for 24 hours straight. The vigil comes just four days before Yom HaShoah, the international Holocaust Remembrance Day.
