Conference Displays Stem Cell Research From Across Nation

On Oct. 30, researchers from around the nation visited the university to present their work with stem cells - cells with the potential o differentiate into multiple types of tissue. Given the potential of these cells, the presented research covered a wide range of medicine, including treatment of hair and hearing loss, skin conditions, and tissue regeneration.  The conference was organized to expose the Cornell community to work elsewhere.

“It’s not like any other conference you’ve been to,” promised Prof. Lisa Patti, film, speaking of the film conference held at Cornell this past Friday and Saturday. Indeed, the unique structure of the conference was readily apparent after merely a brief glance at the program of events — unlike other conferences that focus on a keynote speech and subsequent panel discussions, this conference had no keynote speech and was structured around a series of film viewings and group discussions which — though led by a discussion chair and series of panelists — included heavy audience participation.

C.U. Students Aim to Hone Leadership Skills

Cornell student leaders enthusiastically gathered this weekend to develop their leadership skills and learn from some experienced University leaders, like Dean of Students Kent Hubbell ’67 and Vice President for Student and Academic Services Susan Murphy ’73.

The Student Leadership Institute Conference held yesterday at the Straight was designed to provide student officers of registered University organizations with the opportunity to explore topics of collegiate student leadership.

To attend this year’s conference, attendees went through a competitive application process in which a total of 100 applicants were admitted.

This weekend the Cornell Law School hosted students, professionals and academics to discuss the role the law can play in achieving sustainable development. The event, “Defining Sustainable Development: Land Use, Climate Change and Water Resources,” was held at Myron Taylor Hall and was organized by the Environmental Law Society and the Development-Related Outreach Program for Sustainability.
