The Town of Ithaca will aim to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050, town officials announced Thursday.

In recent weeks, the University has bolstered its reputation as an institution committed to a sustainable future.

The University recently created two new organizations to promote sustainable initiatives on campus as it seeks to implement its Climate Action Plan.

Cornell’s overall grade in the College Sustainability Report Card — an independent evaluation of more than 300 schools’ sustainability efforts across the country — has dropped from last year’s “B+” to a “B” this year, a grade that Cornell’s sustainability coordinator disputed as an inaccurate reflection of the University’s efforts.

Amidst the general upheaval created by the economy, a significant environmental initiative on campus and Reimagining Cornell, the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly held their first meeting of the semester last night in the Straight with approximately 35 in attendance. In addition to the internal campus initiatives, the GPSA also began to discuss the Ivy Summit, an annual summit for all graduate-level assembly members on Ivy League campuses, which Cornell is hosting this year.
